Origin - Odisha Ikat, also known as “Bandha,” is a traditional handwoven textile art form originating from the Indian state of Odisha. It is known for its intricate patterns created using a resist dyeing technique. The fabric is made by tie-dyeing the warp and weft threads to create the design on the loom prior to weaving. This process is unique to Odisha Ikat and has been called “poetry on the loom”. The fabric gives a striking curvilinear appearance and is used to make saris, which feature bands of brocade in the borders and also at the ends, called anchal or pallu. Odisha Ikat fabrics are renowned for their vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and rich cultural heritage. They are highly prized both within India and internationally for their beauty and craftsmanship.
