Origin - The interesting history of Kota Doria craft has evolved over a period of more than 250 years. The recognizing characteristic of this exquisite craft is the square-check pattern, locally known as the ‘Khat’ that is present in the base fabric besides any other type of value addition by weaving of any other process such as embroidery, printing, painting, dyeing etc. 
Kota Doria is a light woven fabric made on traditional pit looms in Kaithoon near Kota in Rajasthan and in some of the surrounding villages. The Khats are made in the fabric so skillfully that the fabric becomes transparent.
Kota Doriya Sarees are made of pure cotton and silk and have square like patterns known as khats on them. The chequered weave of a Kota sari is very popular. The silk provides the shine
while the cotton provides strength to the fabric. Kota Doria sarees are very fine weaves and weigh very little.
