Origin - The Baluchari Saree was practiced in a small village called Baluchar in Murshidabad district is a type of saree that originated in the 18th century of West Bengal and is known for its depictions of mythological scenes on the anchal of the saree. The saree is handwoven using richly dyed silk, with intricate motifs depicting Indian mythology woven onto its large pallu. The designs are mainly from the Ramayana and Mahabharata,
and are worn as a sign of aristocracy and status. Silk weft dyed in white, antique gold, orange, red, yellow, green etc. are generally used to create the designs, with dark shades like blue used for the field colours.
