The hand woven silk Sarees of Maharashtra originated in Paithan of Aurangabad and Yeola of Nashik districts has distinctive style of its own with bold patterns and traditional motifs conveying the socio-cultural ethos of the state. The design framework is linear and exquisite, enameled with flowers, birds especially peacocks and parrots woven in gold. The motifs woven in the Sarees like peacock, lotus, mango and other designs are believed to have been borrowed from the rock-cut caves of Ajanta and Ellora.
